Melatonin and Hashimoto's help!

Hello, I have severe sleep problems and therefore got melatonin capsules from the pharmacy. I have Hashimoto's disease and read online that melatonin should not be taken with autoimmune diseases. I took 2 capsules. One capsule contains: 250 mg Griffonia, 12 mg Pyridoxin HCl, 1 mg melatonin. It says to take one capsule daily, but she told me that I can safely take 2 because depending on the duration of the sleep problems, the body initially needs more melatonin. Since my thyroid diagnosis 8 years ago, I have been sleeping worse. Can anything happen if I take 2 capsules to fall asleep and stay asleep? Other websites say that melatonin is safe to take. I am slowly feeling my body relax. How many capsules could I take at most?

Good morning!

Melatonin can affect an autoimmune disease. However, without further diagnostics, it cannot be said whether it is positive or negative.
But since you seem to be feeling better with the substitution of melatonin, it appears that you are lacking it!
Therefore, you can assume that you are lacking melatonin.
The same goes for a dosage recommendation.
However, I would advise you to continue taking the 2 capsules for now and to monitor your thyroid levels while taking them!
This way, you can slowly approach the ideal dosage for you.

I hope I could help you for now.
Best regards,
A. Hirsch
