Pill/Period

Hello.
I got prescribed the pill a week ago. I was supposed to start taking it when I got my period. The actual bleeding should come in about a week. On Saturday, there was a beige-brown discharge in my underwear, which I then took as my period and started taking the pill. It's now the 4th day since the first pill and there is still no proper bleeding. It's very important to me because I really want to be protected this month! Am I not protected now? It's usually the case for me that this kind of fluid comes before my period, but was it right for me to start? I should start when the period begins, and theoretically it's already here, isn't it? Please, please, please, I need an urgent answer or else I can't sleep peacefully :(((.
Greetings
Cinar

Dear questioner,

For current contraception, it is only important that you continue to take your pill consistently. You are protected regardless of whether there is another bleeding "prevented". You don't need to worry about that.

What I cannot answer for you is whether you are already pregnant now, since your period has essentially been missed. The safest option would be to take a pregnancy test in 4-5 days to rule this out as well.

In any case, you already have contraception protection for the future.

With kind regards, R. Berg
