No period after surgery and cyst?

Hello,

my girlfriend (21) has started taking a different pill (Minisiston) after a break. In the second month of taking the pill, she experienced severe pain in the lower right abdomen shortly before the end of the pack. She was operated on for appendicitis on the same day at the hospital. It was said that she had an ovarian cyst on her right ovary, which had caused an inflammation. The appendix was removed but not the cyst. She took the last pill in the hospital. Now 7 days have passed and nothing has happened so far. She saw her gynecologist who said the cyst is now regressing. She prescribed vaginal tablets because she mentioned that a lot of mucus had formed and since her period has not arrived, she should take them for that purpose. During the ultrasound, a small spot caught her attention, which she could not interpret. She said she could not rule out a pregnancy, but the period could have been delayed due to the surgery and stress. The pregnancy test was negative. She is supposed to come back in a week if she does not get her period.

Could she really be pregnant now? She had a pain in her chest for a few minutes yesterday. Could everything have shifted due to the surgery and cyst after all? In addition, there was all the stress, as she had just found a job a few days before and is now sick, as well as other personal problems.

This uncertainty is driving us a bit crazy. By the way, we only had sex one day before the surgery and maybe 2-3 weeks before that. Pregnancy tests before the surgery and 1 week after were negative.

Good day, I am happy to answer your question. There are many possibilities to consider, on one hand, stress after surgery and infection are possible, on the other hand, an ovarian cyst can also prevent bleeding. A pregnancy can be ruled out for sure through a blood test, which was probably done at the hospital, as an ectopic pregnancy should always be ruled out there.
So, check the hospital report for the ßHcg value. If the bleeding does not start soon, you should go for another ultrasound check-up.
If the ßHcg value is not in the hospital report, then the gynecologist can take blood again..then pregnancy is definitely ruled out and you don't have to worry anymore.

All the best
