New fear of cancer again.

Hello again Mrs. Gehring, unfortunately I have to write again... the fear of leukemia is now hardly there anymore, as my body is giving me new reasons to worry! About 3-4 weeks ago, for some reason I looked at my stool and noticed some light red streaks, but I didn't think much of it and dismissed it as food remnants. In the past few days, I have noticed these traces again and again. Food remnants look different to me! It's not immediately noticeable, but with a flashlight I could see clear red streaks again. When you remove them with a cotton swab, they are slimy and have nothing to do with a tomato or anything like that... the other question is whether blood has that consistency... I probably wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't paid such close attention again... Yesterday was the same, but I have to say that a minute after the stool (where I saw something again), something else came out, and that stool looked healthy and without any red. But today, that didn't sit well with me. Now I also know that if it really is blood, hemorrhoids or something similar could be the cause, for example! However, I have also read about colon cancer and that at 24 (my age) it's not so unlikely anymore. I don't have any known relatives with it, and I never met my grandfather on one side, but other than that, nothing. My parents are in their mid-50s. Additionally, my stomach has been rumbling a bit more lately, and I have already mentioned the pains on the upper right and left side. Night sweats have not recurred to the same extent, otherwise I feel fine. In 2014, I had an examination of my anus, I think it was an endoscopy, and in 2015, an ultrasound of the entire abdomen without any findings, if that helps at all. Perhaps you can reassure me once again, regards.

Good day,

First of all, you should please stop these intense observations! No one functions perfectly at 100%, and you will always find something if you look closely. I also wrote to you that one fear will replace another if you do not undergo intensive therapy. I hope you have finally started with it.

It may have been blood, that I cannot know from a distance. If it is "slimy," there is some mucus present. This can occur with harmless mucosal irritations. If it keeps coming back, I would suggest getting your stool checked for blood to rule out inflammation.

Colon cancer is rare at your age, especially if your first-degree relatives don't have it! It usually presents with changes in bowel habits.

Sincerely, Dr. Gehring
