Blood spots in the sputum.
Hello,
I am 31 years old and in the 12th week of pregnancy. I smoked for 15 years with short breaks, now for 7 weeks not anymore. I have been experiencing constant infections for a year, bronchitis, sinusitis, and tonsillitis. My sinuses are now chronically inflamed, also due to frequent use of nasal spray. Six weeks ago, I had another initial viral infection, followed by a bacterial one a week later. From the beginning, there has been occasional small spots of blood in my cough. I was prescribed antibiotics for 10 days, which helped improve the infection, but there was still blood in my cough. My pulmonologist conducted a lung function test and blood tests, which all came back normal. A lung X-ray in August 2014 was also normal. A week later, I had another virus, with no blood for a few days, but then it returned. I sought a second opinion from another pulmonologist, who also did not think further investigations were necessary, especially due to my pregnancy. The infection improved for 3 days, then I started experiencing sore throat again, with occasional blood in my cough. This has been going on for 6 weeks now. Could this really be due to mucosal injury from the constant infections? I am terribly afraid of lung cancer, but no doctor (3 pulmonologists) sees any reason for concern. Is it possible for this to happen over such a long period of time?
