Are contraceptive pills guaranteed to be effective?

Hello,

I have been prescribed a new pill, namely Diane35. I was supposed to start taking Diane35 immediately after my last dose of my old pill (Cerazette). I ordered my prescription online from a pharmacy and unfortunately it was not delivered on time. Now there are 3 days of pill break between my last dose of the old pill and the start of the new pill. When will protection be guaranteed again? Thank you in advance!

Dr. med. Frauke Gehring

Good morning,

If you took Diane on the first day of your menstrual cycle, you are protected from that day onwards. If you started later, it would be safer to use additional contraception during the first month.

In theory, there could have been an ovulation during the three days without contraception.

Warm regards, Dr. Höllering
