Penicillin during pregnancy

I am 8 weeks pregnant and streptococci of group A were detected in a throat swab.
I had severe sore throat and mild ear pain. I have been taking Isocillin 1.2 Mega three times a day for 3.5 days.
I have been pain-free for three days. However, I feel incredibly nauseous, generally from the pregnancy and probably also as a side effect of the penicillin.
I am stopping the tablets because they are not agreeing with me at all.
I am also very worried that the penicillin might harm my baby, especially now that all the organs are forming. What is your opinion on this? What do you think about stopping the medication if I just feel so unwell with it?

Dr. med. Frauke Gehring

Good evening,

I strongly advise against stopping the Penicillin, as this can lead to the development of resistance. Treatment should at least be continued for five days, and we know that Penicillin does not harm your baby. Please hold out for another 1.5 days, the nausea is likely mostly due to the pregnancy?

Sincerely,

Dr. Gehring
