Question about a skin change existing since 2014

Hello!
In general, a brief introduction about me: I am male, 27 years old.
I have a question regarding a skin change from the year 2014.
It all started when I could feel a palpable, hard lump under the skin of my right thigh in 2014. (I would say it was about 0.5 cm in size when I first felt it) Completely painless, up to this day. I then researched on the internet and dismissed it as a lipoma. However, I noticed that the spot was slowly growing and reached the size shown in 2018. Currently, the size is about 1 cm (1.1 cm to be exact). Since then, I have not noticed any visible growth, although I have not observed it closely. In any case, very slow growth. I then researched on my own again and came across many unpleasant things, so I decided to see my general practitioner. (Recently). There, the suspected diagnosis of (cell-rich) histiocytoma was made, which was reassuring as it does occur mainly in younger adults, in the leg area. He also mentioned that the single occurrence, my young age, and the long duration definitely argued against malignancy. His recommendation was for me to still keep an eye on the spot, to check the size every 3 months, and if it enlarges, to see a dermatologist for further evaluation. No immediate action is needed.

In addition to the photo, I would like to describe the spot: When pressure is applied to the spot, or when it is squeezed, it seems as if the spot briefly disappears or is pushed down and then comes back up.

I have a few specific questions regarding this issue:
Would you agree with the suspected diagnosis, even if it is only based on visual examination and the information provided? And would the recommendation for action be the same in this case?

One last thing that I completely forgot to ask in person: There seems to be a kind of "peeling" of the skin above the spot (You probably know what I mean). Could you please explain this briefly as well? Is it a kind of scar tissue?

Thank you and have a pleasant evening!
