Pain when urinating

Dear Sir/Madam,
I have a question regarding a urological issue. For the past week, I have been experiencing pain while urinating. Blood in the urine was detected at my primary care physician's office. I was prescribed the antibiotic CEFUROXIM 500mg.
I also had a severe case of conjunctivitis and flu-like symptoms, both of which have improved. I have not experienced any flank pain so far, and the doctor's test for kidney tenderness was negative.
However, the pain persists! It feels like everything is "open". I would localize it in the last half of the ureter. The tip of the penis is slightly reddened at the opening to the ureter, and I noticed some blood again yesterday.
My doctor suspects a urethritis, but why isn't it improving even though the antibiotic is almost finished? (I will only take it tomorrow)
Thank you for your response.
Best regards
Dear inquirer,
let's focus on your urological issue. Unfortunately, you did not mention your age. Urinary tract infections or bladder infections in men are generally "complicated" and require treatment with an antibiotic. Make sure to complete the broad-spectrum antibiotic Cefuroxime.
Afterwards, I recommend seeing a urologist to investigate the cause. A common cause of recurring infections is an enlarged prostate leading to a condition called "residual urine", where urine always remains in the bladder. The urologist can diagnose this through a prostate examination and urinary flow measurement. There are various treatment options available.
If your symptoms (such as burning during urination) persist after taking antibiotics, you should see the urologist again. There may be antibiotic resistance, but this cannot be determined so early on.
Get well soon,
Dr. Meyer
