red spots at the urethral opening

I have small reddened areas at the urethral opening (on the right below the actual opening). I am female, 59 years old, with no previous illnesses. There is no blood in my urine, no pain, just a slight feeling of tenderness. Could this be a urinary tract infection? I am very worried that it could be vulvar cancer.

Hello,

Red areas and a feeling of soreness are more indicative of a minor superficial irritation rather than vulvar cancer. Please apply some healing ointment such as Bepanthen and monitor the affected areas. If they rapidly increase, then you should consult your gynecologist tomorrow or, if necessary, contact the on-call service today (Tel 116 117).

A rapid increase would suggest an infection rather than cancer. Fungal infections are most common in this area. Creams for fungal infections can be obtained over the counter at the pharmacy, such as Canesten. The pharmacist can provide you with advice on this.
