Feeling of a foreign body in the anus

Hello,

for a few days now, I have been experiencing a kind of "foreign body sensation" on my buttocks or around my anus, especially when lying in bed. It doesn't cause any pain and doesn't itch. When I wipe with toilet paper, sometimes I feel a small bump right at the anus. I'm not sure if it's a knot, a vein, or something else. I only feel it sometimes, not always.

My bowel movements look normal, no blood or anything. Even when I wipe, there is nothing on the paper. The strange thing is, sometimes when I apply cream to the area, by putting cream on a piece of toilet paper and then applying it, there are sometimes traces on the paper, often they seem to be lint from underwear, but sometimes they look slightly reddish, even though the underwear is not red. So, I'm afraid that I might be bleeding. But they are just tiny dots. And why do I not see anything when I wipe normally or during a bowel movement?

I googled and went from hemorrhoids to colorectal cancer to anal cancer. I'm pretty scared of the latter two. Is that possible? I'm only 27 years old.

I already have an appointment with a doctor, but unfortunately, it's still two weeks away. Should I keep this appointment or try to get a faster one with another doctor or even go to the hospital? What do you think? Is this urgent?

Good day,

I do not assume that it is something urgent, and certainly not something dangerous. The feeling of a foreign body is not uncommon and it could actually be a small area of the skin that has changed. Most commonly, hair follicles grow there. This can temporarily create a small bump or slightly raised area.

The red spots are most likely not blood, as that would mix with the cream and change its color from white to pink.

It's good that you're having a doctor look at it, but two weeks should be early enough. Don't panic. It is highly unlikely to be a carcinoma or anything similar.

Best regards,

Dr. Schaaf
