Further examination after vasectomy

Hello,

About 8 years ago, a vasectomy was performed. The person in question would like to verify whether the success of the vasectomy still exists. To do this, the person would like to provide a sample of their ejaculate to the urologist. The urologist refuses, stating that unwanted reconnection cannot occur anymore and points out that after two ejaculate samples following the vasectomy 8 years ago (both negative), there is no longer any risk, although of course the costs would be covered by the patient.

To my knowledge, unwanted reconnection of the vas deferens can still occur even after years.

Are there labs where this test can be done directly or even home tests to check if the ejaculate is still free of sperm?

Or is there no longer a risk to be expected 8 years after a vasectomy?

Dr. Med. Thomas Kreutzig

A fusion of the vas deferens so long after a vasectomy is indeed very rare, but still not entirely impossible. A test is quite simple. A sperm sample with this question can still be examined even via mail.

Best regards
