Noises in half-sleep
Hello,
for about a month now, I have had the problem that I hear noises during the falling asleep and waking up phase (when I am somewhere between sleeping and waking) that are not there.
I find it difficult to describe the type of noises, they are just isolated sounds. At first, I thought maybe I was making the noises myself (snoring), but now I am sure that they are completely imaginary.
This has led to several nights where I have only slept a few hours because every time I hear them again, I get really scared and then turn on the TV or do something else. I sometimes have real fear of sleeping because I find it really creepy.
By the way, I never experience this in a waking state. As I said, it's always only in the "half-asleep" state.
Where could something like this come from? Am I losing my mind? And most importantly, what can I do about it? I have even tried sleeping with headphones and music, but they don't help at all because the music actually makes it harder for me to fall asleep.
Oh, I should also add that I am generally an anxious person (extreme hypochondriac) and I worry a lot. I also have a very light sleep, always have, and I often have very intense dreams (not necessarily nightmares).
And I am male and 26 years old.
