brain abscess

Two years ago, I had a brain abscess removed stereotactically. It was located near a brain ventricle, but did not rupture. Allegedly, it was caused by bacteria from the oral cavity. My immune system was weakened at that time due to antibody treatment for a chronic inflammatory bowel disease. The abscess caused a sensory disturbance in my left arm, which almost completely disappeared after the surgery. Since then, I have always wondered what would have happened if the abscess had opened into the ventricle. I would appreciate further information on this matter.

Dr. med. Frauke Gehring

Good evening,

Then the bacteria would have spread in the cerebrospinal fluid and led to a probably fatal brain inflammation. In this respect, the neurosurgeons saved your life.

Best regards, Dr. Gehring
