I have been prescribed Trazodone for insomnia. Can I take it as needed or does it need to be taken daily? The prescribed dose is 50 mg.

Good day,

Trazodone not only promotes sleep on its own, but is also effective as an antidepressant and relaxant, which is why it is preferably taken every evening. This way, it can have its best effect and unlike benzodiazepines, it is not addictive.

However, after some time (e.g. 3 months), one should consider discontinuing it, as one does not want to take medication long-term if there is no longer a depression present.
