Elevated levels of GOT GPT in conjunction with strength training

Hello,

I was informed about elevated liver values from a blood test on 13.06.
According to the results, my GOT was 8.9, GPT was 3.84, total bilirubin was 23.6, direct bilirubin was 7.4 and indirect bilirubin was 16.2. Other liver values are within normal range.

I find it strange that just the week before, on 07.06, another blood test was done and only the bilirubin was slightly elevated at 21.3.

I was prescribed Nexium Mups 20 mg on 09.06 and have been taking one tablet daily since Wednesday.

In addition, after the first blood test on Monday, I started exercising again after a long time. Since the gyms have reopened, I have been doing strength training on Monday, Thursday, and Sunday for about 60 minutes each session.

After feeling dizzy while exercising on Sunday, I went to the hospital where these blood test results were obtained. My EKG and neurological tests were fine, and the blood test showed my HERZ creatine kinase MB at 1.78. I do not take any stimulants or anabolic substances.

Could the intense exercise sessions and medication have caused the liver values to increase compared to the blood test a week prior?

Inflammation markers are also within normal range.

The dizziness that led me to the emergency room on Sunday has subsided, but is sometimes still present briefly during rest periods. Is this normal? What could be the cause of this?

Two ultrasound examinations showed that on 07.06 there was a slight build-up of bile fluid, which was not seen in the follow-up examination on 14.06.

Thank you.

Dear inquirer,

The values are not a cause for concern.

If you already have a slight blockage in the ultrasound, it can explain it.

I would recommend a follow-up in a few weeks.

It surely has nothing to do with sports.

Only if you suddenly experience pain in the upper abdominal area, you should see a doctor.

For now, it is enough to wait and see.

Best regards,

Dr. D. Meyer
