Exposed to concrete dust over a longer period of time

Hello,
I am 22 years old and worked on a construction site for about 3 years ago for a longer period of time (6 months). During this time, I was exposed to concrete dust for about 3 months, and for about a week I did not wear a mask and consequently inhaled a lot of dust. I am also a occasional smoker, although there have been times when I did not smoke for several months, and I have been smoke-free for about a month now. Since then, I have experienced occasional strong coughing and frequent tiredness, but no other symptoms. Should I be worried, or would any examinations be advisable?

Dr. med. Frauke Gehring

Good evening,

If you were exposed to concrete dust 3 years ago and have been asymptomatic in recent years, it is no longer relevant today. Irregular smoking should also not have caused any damage at this point.

However, to clarify the symptoms, I would recommend getting a blood test to rule out a persistent infection. Additionally, a lung function test to rule out allergic asthma.

I wouldn't be worried, but I wish you all the best!

Sincerely, Dr. Gehring
