Severe problems after prostate ablation.
Hello,
my father has prostate cancer. For treatment, he opted for the "gentle" method of Hifu. 6 weeks before his prostate was cooked with ultrasound, he had to undergo a prostate ablation to shrink it. That's when the problems began.
In the hospital (he was there for 5 days), everything was still okay. My father was doing well and was allowed to go home. But as soon as he was there, he complained of pain and a pulling sensation in his lower abdomen. He also had a constant urge to have a bowel movement, but without success. After some hesitation, as he saw the problems as side effects of the treatment, he consulted his urologist. The urologist attributed father's problems to scar pain or hip problems. But it only got worse, so that after about 5 weeks he could hardly move and could only walk a few meters limping. The urologist didn't really know what to do. Blood and urine tests showed slightly elevated inflammation levels. However, since the Hifu treatment was pending, this was postponed.
After the treatment, my father felt significantly better and could walk relatively painlessly again. However, this was only for the 5 days in the hospital. As soon as he got home, everything started again and has since deteriorated significantly. So that in the last weeks he could hardly move anymore. When he asked the urologist, he was given antibiotics (since this was also administered during the 5 good days in the hospital), but without significant success. Finally, on the advice of the urologist, my father consulted an orthopedist, who diagnosed a slight hip irritation due to the leg spread during the ablation. This was treated with 3 cortisone injections and 6 sessions of manual therapy. Without success. From then on, it went downhill. 5 days ago, my father had to be brought to the hospital by ambulance with chills, fever, constant urge to urinate, extreme pain, and leg failure. He was examined there. Leukocytes and bacteria in the urine are high. He is being treated with antibiotics and pain medication infusions. But the pain and leg problems remain the same, only the fever has disappeared.
Urologists in the hospital are puzzled and now want to consult a neurologist.
They suspect a nerve problem or a herniated disc.
I read something about prostatitis on the internet and another urologist suspects an inflamed hole in the prostate or a rectal fistula, but so far nothing has helped.
If you have any tips or advice for us, we would be very grateful.
There is news.
My father is supposed to be discharged from the hospital tomorrow. Unfortunately, nothing abnormal was found. The neurologist was also there and performed a few superficial hammer tests. But nothing. Now he is supposed to go home, as there is no u
