Submuscular or subcutaneous ulnar nerve transposition
Dear Sir or Madam,
I had a simple in situ decompression of the ulnar nerve in the elbow (ulnar sulcus syndrome / cubital tunnel syndrome) 6 months ago.
Due to severe dislocation with pain, a relocation is now necessary, namely subcutaneously.
The doctor has chosen the subcutaneous relocation because he believes that the nerve is likely already stressed and therefore does not want to perform the more invasive submuscular relocation.
According to my layman research in medical papers, submuscular relocation seems to achieve better motor results. However, the downside is that it is more invasive.
Is there now a consensus on whether subcutaneous or submuscular relocation is better? I am particularly interested in the improvement of motor function.
Thank you very much.
