Unclear thyroid values

Dear Sir or Madam,

My general practitioner sent me to the radiologist because of borderline FT4 levels. The following thyroid values were determined for me, which I cannot clearly assign.

FT3 2.98 pg/ml with a norm of 2-4.4
FT4 0.93 ng/dl with a norm of 0.93-1.7
Anti TPO 9.68 IU/ml with a norm of 0-34
TRAK human 0.89 IU/ml with a norm of 0-1.75
TSH basal 2.79 µIU/ml with a norm of 0.27-4.2

Ultrasound showed no abnormalities, except that I had a previous inflammation.

I mostly feel well and only became aware of this through a blood test at the general practitioner. Sometimes I have symptoms of fatigue, but also periods of insomnia, which I did not associate with the thyroid.

I (male, 1.65m, 67kg, no medication) have been recommended by the radiologist to start treatment with l thyroxine 50 µg with half a tablet due to the borderline FT4.

I have the following questions. Should I ask the general practitioner (appointment later) if it would be possible to continue observing the values or do a TRH test before taking the tablets, or should I definitely take the tablets? The values are not yet outside the norm. I am concerned about side effects of taking the tablets. How would you assess this? Would seeking a second opinion be advisable?

Sincerely,

A. Tschö
