Radiation exposure from X-ray assistance in veterinary medicine
Hello,
I have a question regarding potential radiation exposure. I am 34 years old and have assisted in X-raying horses over the past 12 years. X-rays were taken using a mobile digital X-ray machine, mostly in the leg area of the horses. I held the X-ray plate and assisted in approximately 70 X-ray images. I was protected by a lead apron, gloves, and thyroid protection, but there was no other protection. Approximately 50 images were taken over a period of 5-6 years, with the rest taken in the last 6 years.
Over the years, I have only had a few X-rays taken myself, including a few dental X-rays, one hand X-ray, one finger X-ray, one jaw X-ray, one lung X-ray, and one head X-ray.
How high would you estimate the radiation exposure from the X-rays I have been exposed to? How many direct X-ray images would the "indirect" radiation from assisting correspond to?
Thank you and kind regards.
