Juvenile polyarthritis

Hello. My daughter has had swollen hands with pain for over 2 months. A hand MRI was done and I have been waiting for the results for 2 weeks. In the meantime, her feet are also swollen and causing her pain. What could this be?

Dr. med. Frauke Gehring

Good day,

You have already mentioned the suspected diagnosis: it could be a rheumatic disease, such as polyarthritis. In the MRI, joint swelling of the affected limbs can be seen. However, more important is the blood test for signs of inflammation and antibodies.

A waiting time of 2 weeks for an MRI result is unacceptable! Normally, it should be available within 2 days at the latest. Your daughter's general practitioner should inquire why it is taking so long.
I wish her all the best!

Sincerely, Dr. Höllering
