Thyroid levels are bad.

Hello,

I have had a hypothyroidism for about 2 years. So far, I have been well adjusted with L-Thyroxine 75. Until March 6, 2014, when things really started to go downhill: restlessness, nervousness, extremely cold feet, poor concentration, and a slight dizziness with mild vertigo. I went to my GP who increased the dose (from 75 to 100). Since then, I have been feeling a little better but not really well! The dizziness and diarrhea are still present, and the TSH value is 10.49, which is quite high. An ultrasound was also done by the radiologist, as well as a scan, with the result that the thyroid is enlarged but no nodules are present. I am now a little worried because we are going on vacation in about 4 weeks and I'm afraid I won't be able to go if I don't feel better by then. My question is, when can I expect improvement? Are these symptoms of initial worsening or do I need more Thyroxine? I would be grateful for quick help.

Dear questioner, you are describing symptoms that are more indicative of overactivity, however, the high TSH levels suggest hypofunction. This does not quite match up. Have other causes of your symptoms been investigated? What are the other blood values like, especially T3 and T4? Is there a cause for the hypofunction? Hashimoto's disease? Regards, Welsch
