Co-amoxiclav in combination with clindamycin for tonsillar abscess?

Hello!
I have a question regarding my current antibiotic cocktail that I received here in the Philippines.

I am currently on vacation in the Philippines for a few weeks. At Christmas, I had a sore throat in Germany which I treated with 10 days of penicillin, but it did not heal properly. Four days after stopping the penicillin, an abscess developed around the tonsil tissue. I didn't have access to a doctor and started taking Amoxicillin because it is available over the counter everywhere, and I had often been prescribed it for previous tonsillitis infections.
The abscess kept getting bigger, so I went to the doctor on the nearest island who prescribed me Amoxiclav 500mg/125mg three times a day. Yesterday, after no improvement for two days, I went to an ENT doctor in Manila. She prescribed me another antibiotic, Clyndamycin 300mg, in addition to the Amoxiclav, both to be taken together for 7 days.
She did not want to cut open the abscess, as in the Philippines, they prefer to treat it with medication. A few hours after the doctor's visit, the abscess thankfully drained in my mouth. I am feeling much better now.
My question is: Is it really necessary to continue taking the full antibiotic cocktail for another six days? Is this combination common? I am afraid of damaging my immune system and other things with it.

Thank you for your advice, Best regards.

Hello, Clindamycin and Amoxuvlav have a similar spectrum. I would only take one of them for another week. Abscesses have a high tendency to recur. You should consider having a tonsillectomy if they come back. Regards, Welsch
