Wrong ointment put into the ear.

Hello, I received an eye ointment from a doctor that I should put in my ear to help loosen earwax. I accidentally put the wrong eye ointment in my ear and now I can hardly hear anything because the ointment is not coming out easily. It is posiformin 2%. I think it contains vaseline or lanolin. Even with lukewarm water, it doesn't come off. Will it go away on its own or is this a case for the emergency room? Is it harmful to the eardrum or hearing? I can feel that the ointment is deep near the eardrum. I can hear but it's worse and it feels numb.

Dear questioner, you probably have a wax plug in your ear that has swollen under the ointment. It is not dangerous, even with Posiform ointment. Please have it removed by an ENT doctor. Please do not go to the emergency room. If it needs to be done on the weekend, you can find out which ENT doctor in your area is on call by calling 116 117. Best regards, Welsch
