Help please

My iron level is at 13 and ferritin at 33, I was told that's okay.

I feel so bad, I always have dizziness, balance problems, burning tongue, pressure on my chest. Feelings of fainting and am just extremely weakened. My hands tingle or go numb and so does the right side of my face and foot. I have already been to neurology, I feel like I am too short on the right side. Additionally, I have difficulty swallowing as if something is stuck in my throat.

Hello,

This is also less of a neurological issue. The ferritin level is good, but the serum iron level is somewhat low, so it is worth trying iron tablets like Ferro Sanol (available without prescription, 1 daily for over 50 days). Your symptoms also suggest a possible deficiency in Vitamin B12 or folic acid. Both levels can be determined by your primary care physician, and they could also test for Vitamin D. They should also examine your back, as tension there and in the neck can cause tingling and numbness. Due to the swallowing sensation, an ultrasound of the thyroid gland would be recommended, as well as testing for thyroid levels. However, the burning sensation in the tongue, as well as the possibility of acid reflux, should also be considered, so an endoscopy of the stomach may be necessary if nothing else is found.

Warm regards,
Dr. Höllering
