Visible fasciculations for one year

Hello,
I am 34 years old and male.
About a year ago, fasciculations began to be noticeable or visible throughout my body, especially in the calves and feet at short intervals of seconds/minutes while at rest. Recently, I have also been experiencing twitches in my right big toe, which moves briefly to the left every few minutes. I am not consciously able to control this movement. In the past year, I have visited several neurologists who have ruled out any pathological cause of the fasciculations. Taking magnesium supplements did not help either. I tend to feel restless. Could this be the cause?

Dr. med. Frauke Gehring

Hello,

Definitely! In cases of a tense autonomic nervous system, for example in patients with anxiety disorders, fasciculations are not uncommon.

In this case, autogenic training, yoga, Tai Chi alternating with strenuous exercise can be a good therapy.

I would also recommend getting your calcium levels checked, as a deficiency can also be a cause of fasciculations.

Wishing you all the best!

Warm regards, Dr. Gehring
