Hello
In June 2014, I had a left-sided infarction of the medulla oblongata resulting in right hemiparesis. Upon waking up in the morning, I experience cramps in my left leg and arm. For the past 6 weeks, I have been taking Lioresal 5 (1 tablet in the morning and 1 in the evening) with limited effect. Are there better ways to prevent the morning cramps? Thank you for your efforts.
Good day,
I am a neurosurgeon and I am happy to assist you.
The therapy for spasticity is started with the oral intake of Lioresal, starting dose 15 mg per day, increasing by 5 mg every 4-5 days up to a daily dose of about 75 mg, depending on the effect. If this therapy is maximized, Lioresal can also be given intrathecally (via a pump directly into the spinal canal), usually with significantly better effects and fewer side effects.
Your current dose is too low.
Best regards and all the best
