Independent muscle contraction in the morning
Good day,
I have the following problem and so far I have not found anyone who can explain it correctly. Every morning after waking up, my muscles contract violently without any action on my part, with every movement. Specifically, when I move my foot or leg, my abdomen, hips, and thighs contract quite strongly, it can also extend to the chest, back, shoulders, etc. after a few movements it returns to normal. The condition is very difficult to control, sometimes I manage to reduce the contraction through targeted relaxation, but most of the time I just have to wait it out. Interestingly, it only happens in the morning, if I nap for an hour during the day, nothing happens. I have observed this condition since a hip and knee replacement surgery 3 years ago, sometimes more, sometimes less. I suspect it comes from the back, as there is almost nothing left between the vertebrae in the lumbar spine, and I also feel pain in my back.
I know that a remote diagnosis is quite vague, but maybe someone with experience with such complaints or who has treated a patient with similar symptoms before will be able to help. I would like to know where to start. Although I am in very good hands at the University Hospital in Basel, I would like to avoid getting caught up in the cycle of tests (EMG, CT, MRI, etc.) without already having a vague idea of what or where to look.
Thank you for any competent response.
