facial paralysis

Hello, I was operated on at the end of November 2015 due to left facial paralysis. A muscle was transplanted from the inside of the right thigh to the left cheek, and nerves were pulled from the healthy right cheek to the sick left cheek through the upper and lower lip. The swelling has already subsided quite a bit, but the muscle on the left side is still somewhat thick near the upper and lower lip. I haven't been working for 2 months now, how long should one not work for. I still feel like I have a stone in my left cheek when I bend down. Can you help me further with this?

Dr. med. Frauke Gehring

Good day,

This is already a major operation, and it is quite possible that the muscle thickening may remain to some extent, as scar tissue has naturally formed there. However, the connective tissue is constantly changing due to your facial expressions, so it is to be hoped that an improvement will still occur within the next three months.

You should be able to work again now, even if there is a strange feeling of pressure when bending down. I would recommend having a follow-up examination with a facial surgeon beforehand to rule out any edema, residual bruising, or infection.

All the best!

Sincerely, Dr. Höllering
