Ask a doctor on the topic of Medications

Which antibiotic is suitable for many confirmed allergies?

I have an allergy to Penicillin, Azithromycin, Xyzall, and Clinda-Saar. I have a major dental surgery scheduled for next week. I had to take Clinda-Saar for swelling but I couldn't tolerate it. Now my jawbone is acting up again, so as a precaution I was prescribed Cipro-Hexal. I had a heart ablation in January 2003 for supraventricular tachycardia. I am completely unsure of what to do if my cheek swells up again. The doctor didn't want to proceed with the surgery now because I have a cold. Please respond to me. I am a 48-year-old female.

Good evening,

When it comes to allergies, Ciprofloxacin is a good choice, as cross-allergies are very unlikely. However, I would not perform surgery for a cold, regardless of allergies. When you have a cold, your immune system is weakened and there is a risk of infections and wound healing complications in the surgical area.

Do you have any questions about this? I am happy to help.

All the best and a speedy recovery.

Best regards,
