thrombosis

I flew for 2 hours today and after an hour, I felt a pulling sensation in my right calf that has persisted for 10 hours and has spread to the area above the calf. My foot sometimes tingles. Now I'm afraid it could be a thrombosis. I am 46 years old, slightly overweight, do not smoke, and do not take any pills. I only have one varicose vein in my thigh.

Good evening,

It could indeed be a thrombosis. You can get one even without varicose veins, and there are no definitive clinical signs that reliably indicate "This is a thrombosis" or "This is not a thrombosis". For your safety, you should definitely get examined. An ultrasound examination is suitable, or if that is not available, a blood test for the so-called D-dimers. If this test is negative, you most likely do not have a thrombosis. However, if the test is positive, the suspicion of thrombosis remains.

If you are "at the end of the world"...
If there is no possibility for an examination, you should try to get so-called abdominal injections (heparin injections) and inject them in the morning and evening. Additionally, you should wrap the leg well with elastic bandages or wear compression stockings, which should not be too tight or slip down.

The most important thing: you should walk briskly for at least 30 minutes as soon as possible. Additional walks of at least 20 minutes twice a day!

Get well soon.
