Spastic bronchitis

Good day, about 2 weeks ago I was diagnosed with spastic bronchitis due to noises in the lungs and shortness of breath. I don't have a cough or phlegm. I have been using the Foster spray for about 1.5 weeks, but now only once a day, it is sufficient for me and I have problems with side effects.

It varies from day to day, sometimes I have no problems and then there are days when I have more breathing problems again. Since the weekend, I have had pressure on my chest and/or in my throat, it is difficult to define and a bit of a cough, is this a good or bad sign?

Should I be worried or is it normal for it to take time? I want to fly on vacation with my son next week.

Should I see the doctor again, I have already been there 3 times in the past 2 weeks and he always tells me nothing new.

Thank you very much.

Good day,

You should definitely clarify the matter. This can be done, for example, with a lung function test. Some general practitioners offer this in their practice. If your doctor does not have such a device, an examination by a pulmonologist is possible, to which your general practitioner can easily refer you.

Regarding your complaints: the pressure you describe could well be related to spastic bronchitis or asthma. It is definitely not a side effect of the Foster spray. On the contrary, this spray is supposed to relieve that pressure. If this is not achieved even with 2 doses of the spray, additional sprays may be necessary.

This is always the case when there is a severe inflammation of the bronchi. Then the cortisone content in the spray must be increased. Foster spray is also offered in two variants, 100/6 and 200/6. If you have only been using the 100/6 so far, ask your doctor if a trial with the 200/6 spray would be possible.

Even if you have already been to the doctor several times, I would advise you to undergo a lung function test before your vacation to check the type and extent of the spasm, as well as the response to the medications. A significant improvement should be achieved within 2 weeks. Sometimes this can only be achieved with two sprays or a higher dosage.

It would be better in any case to try this before your vacation, as you cannot enjoy your holidays freely with chest pressure.

With warm regards, R. C. Berg
