Persistent bleeding after initial pill intake

Hello,
1.5 weeks ago, I started taking a pill on the first day of my period, but the bleeding hasn't stopped. I am 35 years old, I took a break from the pill for several years and have now started again. I have read that you can take the pill twice a day for a few days to stop the bleeding. Is that true? Thank you in advance.

Dr. med. Frauke Gehring

Good evening,

It would be extremely reckless to simply take the pill twice to stop the bleeding. The suggestion probably comes from the fact that the bleeding under the pill is a withdrawal bleeding. The theory: if you increase the hormone dose, the likelihood of withdrawal bleeding is lower. So far, so correct. But it is not advisable to increase the dose without consulting a doctor. Not to overlook a disease of the cervix or ovaries. Therefore, please have two more days of patience and then consult your treating doctor.

Sincerely, Dr. Gehring
