Flakes in the ultrasound of the amniotic fluid
Dear medical team,
I am currently in the 19th week of my pregnancy with twins. The issue now pertains to the amniotic fluid of the babies.
Last week, I had an ultrasound and everything was fine with the babies. However, there were many white flakes in my "bladder", so the doctor ordered a urine culture. It came back negative. He was previously convinced that I had a serious infection. The babies' amniotic fluid was clear.
Today, I had another ultrasound and this time, these white flakes are more prominent in the "amniotic sacs" of the babies. I was quite shocked. White dots of all sizes were flying everywhere.
My doctor mentioned that he has seen something similar shortly before birth, but that I shouldn't worry. However, I am only in the 19th week of my pregnancy.
There is no protein in my urine, the pH level of my urine is 8.0, the pH level of my vagina is 4.7, and there was nothing unusual in the microscopic examination of the swab. Nevertheless, we have sent the swab for further bacteriological analysis. The cervix is closed and firm, and the cervical length is 4.5 cm.
Some important information: I have an organized hematoma in my uterus, which is almost resolved, and elevated D-dimers of 3500 (apparently due to the resolution of the hematoma). The placenta is unremarkable, with minimal small white calcium deposits.
No matter where I search, I can't find any information about these flakes in the amniotic fluid on ultrasound in the second trimester.
What could this be? Do you have any ideas? Have you ever seen something like this before? I find it very concerning, as last week it affected the bladder and now the babies' amniotic fluid.
It's making me very nervous.
