Questions about wanting children
Good morning,
My husband and I have been trying to conceive a child since June. So far, it hasn't worked, but I must honestly confess that we have not fully utilized every month. We have basically been trying for 2 months now.
I have been charting my temperature for a year. I have been able to detect ovulation 11 out of 12 times (at least in the chart). I have a luteal phase (from the first higher measurement) of 11 days. I know it's a bit short, but at least my gynecologist said it could be enough and she knows many who have gotten pregnant with that. I think I also had 12 days once. There are a few cycles where I only have 8 or 9 days, but it's clear that it won't work then. Those are cycles where ovulation comes very late. My cycle is 27-31 days long. I have never taken the pill. Sometimes I get lucky and ovulation occurs on day 14 or 13. But admittedly, that is very rare. This time, I got it on day 18/19 (cervical mucus always starts a few days before). So, everything is not as nicely regulated as it should be, but I try not to stress about it.
I had a hormonal status test done 4 years ago, and everything was fine. My doctor wants to wait and is not taking my concerns too seriously at the moment. A good friend of mine needed a year as well, and then it happened naturally.
Now I still have a few questions, which you may be able to help me understand correctly.
I asked a doctor in another medical portal what he thinks, and he believes it would make sense to consider Clomiphene and Utrogest. No more time to waste (11 days is too short). Maybe I have described everything a bit dramatically.
Another doctor from my circle of acquaintances tried to reassure me and said I should keep trying, wait. Maybe try to extend the luteal phase with different teas. There's no need to use a sledgehammer to crack a nut.
We tried once in June, but my cycle was really strange back then. I had little cervical mucus, and when the ovulation test was positive, I had no desire, and there were 3 days between intercourse and ovulation. I also had quite severe abdominal pain during that time. The resulting menstruation from that cycle was also very short. I went to the gynecologist, and she said everything looked organically fantastic! She couldn't see any cysts or anything similar. She also found the cervical mucus to be quite normal. I went to see her a month later on day 16. She saw follicles, but not a dominant one. She asked how I could be so sure that ovulation hadn't occurred yet. I explained that I measure my temperature, etc. She didn't see ovulation coming, but it did, because on day 19, I had a temperature rise to 36.85 degrees, and it stayed that way for 11 days until my period. I think that was just a poor or immature ovulation. But we didn't try that cycle. I felt like I had my ovulation today (tonight, as my breasts are starting to become slightly sensitive). We had intercourse on Friday evening. And it's day 18 for me. My temperature hasn't risen yet, it usually rises 1-2 days after ovulation for me. I'm guessing it will be tomorrow.
Before I continue rambling on to the actual questions:
-Does a late ovulation necessarily mean poor egg quality?
-Is an 11-day luteal phase too short?
-I read that temperature rises 1-2 days after ovulation. Do you not count that day as part of the luteal phase as well? Then I would have 12 days. Progesterone is released directly after ovulation, but the temperature sometimes takes a while to rise.
I may sound stressed and nervous, but internally, I am much more relaxed. Whereas 2 months ago, I thought my world would end if I tested negative, now I think: It will happen when it's meant to happen. I have time ;) I'm just very curious.
Maybe you have read everything up to this point and have an opinion on it.
Thank you very much and have a nice Sunday.
