Caesarean section

Dear Dr,
I will soon have my appointment for a Caesarean section! I am very very worried! It is my very first surgery and there is so much to read and hear about.
I am really scared of the spinal block... Does it happen often that it is placed incorrectly and one becomes paralyzed!?
Then the question about amniotic fluid embolism, but I have also read that amniotic fluid is suctioned out to prevent that from happening, or is that incorrect information!?
And what about thrombosis!? Are the injections you receive beforehand enough!?
Lastly, how does one feel during the surgery!? Not entirely clear-headed!?
I would be very grateful for a response!
Best regards.

Dr. med. Frauke Gehring

Good evening,

The error rate for spinal anesthesia during childbirth is 1:80,000, and of course you will not be paralyzed!

The amniotic fluid is suctioned off, and the risk of an amniotic fluid embolism is about 5:100,000.

The thrombosis injections are sufficient, they are very safe, and during the surgery you will only feel dazed if you take a sedative beforehand.

So: No worries!

Warm regards, Dr. Höllering
