Ask a doctor on the topic of General medicine

throat voice

Hello, I have a strange feeling in my throat, not directly a sore throat or a feeling of a foreign object. Sometimes my voice disappears while speaking. What can I do?

Dr. med. Frauke Gehring

Hello,

If this has been going on for several weeks, you should first ask your family doctor to feel your neck; if the thyroid is enlarged, he should check it with ultrasound.

If the thyroid is fine, the ENT doctor will check your vocal cords by looking into them.

But if you have only had the problem for a few days, it is enough to suck on sage lozenges and to rest your voice by speaking softly (or better yet, not at all).

Sincerely, Dr. Höllering
