Hello, I have been undergoing hyposensitization treatment in the form of drops since Thursday. Yesterday, I took an Omeprazole and immediately after, I started experiencing difficulty swallowing. I still have this issue. What is it? What can I do?

Christian Welsch

Dear questioner, that is unusual. In the initial phase of desensitization, itching and burning in the mouth can occur. If you experience any discomfort, you may take an antihistamine, such as Cetirizine or Loratadine. The itching will eventually go away if you persist, it can just be annoying.

Omeprazole helps with acid reflux by reducing acid production. What kind of symptoms did you have? Hypothetically, the capsule may have irritated your throat while swallowing, causing a small wound that is painful, or you may have reflux, which can cause throat pain. Or you may have an infection.

Have an ENT specialist examine you, then we will know more.

Could I help you? Do you have any questions?

Regards, Welsch
