Slight blood in the saliva without any other symptoms

Hello, my main question is for Dr. Höllering, as she knows me as a patient with anxiety! I am 24 years old, have Lupus, and have struggled with anxiety for a long time... which is now gone. My current fear revolves around yellow saliva in the morning and/or blood in my saliva! Firstly, my blood values were fine at the end of May, except for a thrombocytopenia. In April, I had a dry cough, which I recently mentioned on justanswer because I wanted to know why exhaling strongly (almost like a wheeze) towards one side feels strange, as if I am exhaling against resistance, but only when I provoke it. I have no breathing sounds, no shortness of breath, and the cough is gone! However, what I have noticed in recent weeks is yellowish saliva after sleeping, occasionally with blood, but I cannot say if it may have come from my gums. On a few days, I suddenly had blood in my mouth during the day, my gums did not bleed, it seemed to come from the saliva further back, but I never coughed anything up or spit anything out! I have also asked other doctors for advice, and they said there is no cause for concern, but here I was told about the function of cilia, which now makes me afraid that my lungs are secreting blood or that something else is going on down there! I am worried and not sure what to think. My thoughts even go as far as edema, lung cancer, etc... Please give me an assessment and possible causes! Thank you.

Good morning,

Now I can open the question.

Blood in saliva often comes from the gums, even if you don't see gum bleeding. Other reasons are irritation of the larynx caused by reflux of stomach acid or by mucus draining from chronically irritated sinuses.

Blood from the lungs does not simply appear in saliva in the morning, but is brought up during deep coughing, so that you can see bright red spots on the tissue. You are too young for lung cancer, and I hope you do not (anymore) smoke.

Pulmonary edema causes completely different symptoms, and you have no cause for that.

The more doctors you visit, the more uncertain you will become. I hope you also seek psychological support to not burden your young life with fears.

By the way, my last name is now Gehring, because I got married on Saturday.

Best regards, Dr. Gehring
