Petechiae Cause?

Hello Dr. Gehring, sorry but now I (24-year-old Lupus patient) have the next concern. The gum inflammation has definitely decreased, although still visible! Upon closer observation, I noticed tiny pinpoint bleeding on the soft palate. Overnight, I felt like there may be even more, but I'm not sure! It should be mentioned that I have had thrombocytopenia frequently due to Lupus (probably currently as well). I have also noticed these spots on the oral mucosa before, but always thought they were isolated incidents. My last blood test was 6 months ago... Now I'm kind of on a stupid leukemia trip and I'm worried. Otherwise, I'm feeling fine... Maybe you can reassure me once again... Thank you!

Good day,

I will gladly try to explain :-)

There is actually no leukemia that only leads to petechiae, but no other symptoms. If the platelets are reduced because the leukocytes are "exploding", the erythrocytes are also reduced, which would make you feel weak and tired. Often the lymph nodes are enlarged, and one may suffer from night sweats.

I hope you can relax. Petechiae can also occur in the palate if you eat something too hot.

Warm regards, Dr. Gehring
