Constant nausea without a diagnosis! Now they are attributing it to the psyche.
Good day,
today I am reaching out to you with a very distressing issue.
For the past 4 months, I have been experiencing constant nausea, the facts are:
- regardless of situations (no matter where I am)
- it all started after grilling with my family, immediately afterwards
- nausea, no vomiting, nausea can be classified as mild, moderate, severe
- independent of meals
What has already been investigated:
- Double blood test
- Urine sample
- Gastroscopy
- Double stool sample
- Abdomen CT upper abdomen
The gastroscopy was inconclusive, but suggested a possible past HP gastritis. HP was ruled out through a stool test, and biopsies of the stomach lining did not confirm a Helicopacter infection.
Blood, urine, and abdomen CT were normal. The CT showed an enlarged spleen, which is attributed to a past mononucleosis. No intolerances were found, especially no celiac disease.
My primary care physician referred me to the hospital because I have lost a lot of weight. They would have admitted me, but explained that the findings are so recent that they would need to re-do the tests. The chief physician also felt that admission was not currently necessary.
There are 2 possible diagnoses:
1. Dysfunction of the stomach
2. Psychosomatic illness
I was then referred to a psychologist. In an acute consultation (2 x 50 minutes) he diagnosed:
- Somatoform disorder
- Anxiety disorder
- Suspicion of atypical anorexia
In the past years, I have been through a lot, a very painful breakup that I still haven't gotten over, the death of my father, generally things that have changed my life. However, I simply do not believe in a psychological cause!
Medication-wise, I have taken Pantoprazole, MCP, Domperidone, Citalopram
Currently, I am taking:
Pantoprazole as needed, Doxepin 2 x 10mg, 1 x 25mg
My questions:
1) Would it be advisable to undergo a controversial fungal diagnosis? (Candida infection) If so, how likely would my symptoms be due to a fungal infection?
2) I am still FIRMLY convinced that these symptoms CANNOT be triggered by psychological influence in my case. I do not suffer from any psychosomatic "co-illnesses" such as lack of drive, etc. Even in completely relaxed moments, I suffer from nausea. I simply do not want to be pushed onto the psychosomatic path just because conventional medicine does not have an answer. Are there additional tests (other than lactose, fructose, sorbitol) that would be indicated?
3) For weeks, I have also noticed flaky skin on both sides of my nose. The skin here feels very scaly and dry. During severe bouts of nausea, I also feel like I have the flu, it briefly feels like chills. However, it usually disappears within 1 hour. Could these symptoms indicate another illness?
4) I sleep very, very poorly at night. I wake up multiple times and then have an absolute craving for something sweet. This craving almost automatically drives me to the candy cupboard. Often, I catch myself only becoming consciously aware of this when I open the cupboard door. However, I had this before the constant nausea started. Is there a connection?
Thank you and happy holidays.
