Heart

Hello, I am feeling a bit panicked. I measured my blood pressure and it showed heart rhythm disturbances twice, but both times my pulse was fine. The blood pressure was 112/78 the first time and then 113/90. Now I measured again, no rhythm disturbances but suddenly the blood pressure is 138/100. What does that mean?

Dr. med. Frauke Gehring

Good evening,

If the sensor of the measuring device does not properly detect a pulse wave, it interprets the pressure as potentially too low and indicates a rhythm disturbance. This must have happened to you. Probably the "panic" then caused an increase in pressure, as someone who is panicking does not have a "resting pressure".

Please make sure to sit quietly for at least 5 minutes before measuring, hold the device at heart level while measuring, and do not clench your fist.

Since all values are acceptable, there is no need for panic.

Warm regards, Dr. Höllering
