Ask a doctor on the topic of General medicine

cough

Hello, I have had a strong cough for 11 days, during the first 4 days I also had a fever of almost 40 degrees. I am still sick until tomorrow, the cough just won't go away, I have pain in my ribs and chest and wheeze slightly. I am totally exhausted and tired. Should I go to the doctor again tomorrow? I am taking expectorants, drinking 3 liters of water and inhaling.

Dr. med. Frauke Gehring

Good evening,

If you are wheezing, it could be a sign of asthmatic bronchitis, and this should definitely be checked out! Your primary care physician can do this by listening to your lungs and performing a lung function test on you. If he is unable to do so, he should refer you to a pulmonologist. Additionally, he should examine your blood to determine if you would benefit from an antibiotic (which would be the case in the event of a bacterial infection). Under no circumstances should you go back to work tomorrow or the day after!

Sincerely, Dr. Gehring
