Impact of second job on short-time work allowance
April 8, 2021 | 30,00 EUR | answered by Steuerberater Knut Christiansen
Hello,
Currently, I am in short-time work (short-time work 0) in my main job and now have the opportunity to take on another part-time job subject to social insurance contributions. Generally, this should not be a problem, as it would fall under tax class 6.
Now I would need to know if it is possible to take on the part-time job during short-time work, and if so, how it would be offset with the short-time work allowance.
Good day and thank you for using frag-einen.com!
I would like to answer your question as part of an initial consultation.
In general, it is possible and permissible to take on a side job while receiving short-time work allowance in order to supplement your income. The earnings from a mini job (up to 450 euros) would be disregarded until December 31, 2021.
I also inquired with the employment agency hotline. It appears that the income from the side job will be fully offset against the short-time work allowance if the activity is taken up during the receipt of short-time work allowance. So, in total, you would not achieve a higher income. Therefore, I would recommend sticking to a mini job of up to 450 euros, as it is, as mentioned, disregarded until December 31, 2021.
I hope this answers your question, but feel free to ask further questions at no cost.
I would like to point out that this forum cannot replace a detailed and personal tax consultation, but is mainly intended to provide an initial tax assessment. By adding or omitting relevant information, the legal assessment of your concern could be different.
