Dear Sir or Madam,

In March 2009, I purchased an Epson projector from a third-party seller on Amazon. Now, the lamp has stopped working. Epson provides a 1-year warranty on the built-in lamp of the model, but there is no warranty on a replacement lamp.

I contacted the third-party seller and offered to purchase a newer model (with a 5-year warranty) if they would take back the old model and refund the cost. However, they did not bother to respond.

Is there any other type of warranty or guarantee that could apply in this case? I find it hard to believe that an electrical device should break down within a year and a half. Do you have any advice?

Thank you for your inquiry. Since the warranty period has expired, the only option available to you is the legal warranty. You can generally assert warranty claims within two years from the transfer of the purchased item.

The problem, however, is that you would need to prove that the item was defective at the time of transfer 1.5 years ago. This could only be possible through a professional assessment, which I cannot recommend to you due to the cost risk. It is unlikely that the defectiveness at the time of transfer can be proven.
