Ask a doctor on the topic of Urology

urethra, bladder

I have had a burning sensation in my urethra for about 6 weeks (male) and then took DOXICICLIN 100 mg twice daily for 7 days, and it was about 1 week better, almost nothing felt. Then it started again, now I have been taking Ciprofloxacin for 3 days, 2 days 250 mg twice daily and from today 3 days 500 mg twice daily, but I have been feeling increased burning sensation when urinating and afterwards from today. It is a really uncomfortable burning sensation in the urethra and pulling in the lower groin area. I have never had extramarital sex and neither has my wife!!
What else can I do... or how long does it take for the medication to work better.
Please give me advice!!
Thank you
Kind regards
Jürgen P.

Dear inquirer, your symptoms suggest an infection of the urinary tract or the prostate. Since it hasn't improved with Ciprofloxacin, a urethral swab and a bacteriological examination of the urine should be arranged if possible.
