Taking testosterone capsules - erectile dysfunction
November 20, 2011 | 20,00 EUR | answered by Dr. med. Ralf Berg
Dear Doctor,
I have the following problem: At the beginning of November, I took Andriol Testocaps from the company Organon for a few days, which I had bought in Thailand. I took 4-6 capsules of 40mg each for about 4-5 days (total of about 20 capsules). I experienced severe erectile dysfunction very quickly: my penis is constantly very flaccid, smaller than normal, and shriveled. I also have difficulty achieving an erection. That's why I immediately stopped taking the stuff. Unfortunately, it is impossible to legally obtain Clomid for discontinuation in Germany.
To which type of doctor should I turn? Urology?
Would the Private Health Insurance cover treatment for this "matter"? I would be very grateful for your helpful response!
Sincerely, S.
Dear inquirer,
1. You should consult a doctor specializing in andrology. This is a specialization in "men's medicine" mainly held by urologists, although some internists or general practitioners may also be qualified. You can usually find them listed under the category of andrology in the telephone directory.
2. I strongly advise against any further self-experimentation (especially with Comifen). In my opinion, it is more likely that the Thailand product you used was a counterfeit. Your symptoms are not a normal reaction to testosterone supplementation.
3. If you still have the tablets, please do not throw them away, as they can be analyzed for other ingredients.
4. Since it is initially unclear why these symptoms are occurring, and there may be other underlying conditions that coincidentally occurred with your tablet intake, you can assume that your health insurance will cover the diagnostic tests.
Please seek a urologist along with the tablets, and possibly an andrologist for further evaluation.
Wishing you a speedy recovery,
Dr. R. Berg
