Inflammation of the testicles

Dear Sir or Madam,

After sexual contact (unprotected), I experienced a burning and itching sensation in my penis 1-2 weeks later (without any external redness or similar symptoms). I also had a discharge (initially whitish, later turning yellow), and then developed an inflammation of the left testicle (or epididymis, I am not sure). This was characterized by a slight redness and minimal swelling of the scrotum. Just to clarify, I did not see a doctor beforehand. I took a single dose of CIPROFLOXACIN 500 mg to rule out Gonorrhea, and after taking it, the discharge improved by about 40%. My suspicion was therefore on a Chlamydia infection, so I took a single dose of AZITHROMYCIN 1g. The discharge decreased, as did the burning and itching (although not completely). To treat the inflammation of the testicle and urethra, I took CIPROFLOXACIN 500 mg for 10 days (1g in the morning and 1g in the evening). After about 8 days of taking it, the discharge disappeared completely, and the burning and itching also subsided. Additionally, the inflammation of the testicle decreased significantly (by 70%). It has been around 8 days since my last dose of CIPROFLOXACIN. I no longer experience any burning or itching during urination, and it is normal without any issues. Sex is also not a problem, although I did experience a slight burning sensation (really minimal) after ejaculation once I finished the course of CIPROFLOXACIN.

My question now is, when should the testicular inflammation resolve at the latest? Or do I need to take another 10-day course of CIPROFLOXACIN? Please just share your experience.

Dear Inquirer,

your problem somehow seems familiar to me. Have you not turned to the forum at an earlier point in time?

My experience: The minimal remaining symptoms now disappear in 95% even without further intervention. If not, I must of course recommend you to a urologist, if only to rule out the (although unlikely) but possible reportable venereal infections.

But based on general experience, the matter is now resolved.

Best regards,
Dr. R. Berg
