Prescription of psychotropic drugs in children

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am currently working on an article as a journalist on the topic "Prescription numbers of psychotropic drugs in children rising" (see http://www.aerzteblatt.de/nachrichten/67988). The Ärzteblatt writes: "The analysis of the data shows that the increase in psychotropic drug prescriptions is not due to an increase in newly treated children and adolescents, but rather that more patients who had previously received therapy received psychopharmacotherapy again in the following years."

My questions:

- How would you explain this phenomenon based on your experience?
- Was it due to lack of compliance/adherence of patients to pharmacotherapy or were no long-term approaches pursued?
- In your experience, do parents also play a role, preferring medication over lengthy psychotherapy?

I would like to quote your response in the article.

Thank you in advance!
